A Tribute to Alberta Hunter
In her Triad debut, Alicia Crowe pays musical tribute to blues jazz legend Alberta Hunter. Hunter’s career spanned six decades as she overcame obstacles and broke racial barriers to become one of the first African American singers to make the transition from performing in lowly brothels to becoming the “toast of royalty and international society.”
Join Alicia as she takes you on a historic musical journey through the origins and early development of America’s classical music (commonly known as jazz). Setting the scene in the 1920’s, Alicia takes you to some of the most famous ballrooms, cabarets, nightclubs and theaters while paying tribute to Alberta and other composers and performers of this magical era.
With her sassy, smooth sultry contralto tones and her playful swing and witty humor, she recreates the “Bright Light District.”
